Shane opened the door to see Blaze. She had been crying. "Come here,
Blaze." They sat on the couch. Shane's parents were out for the week on a
vacation. "What's wrong?" She broke out sobbing. After Shane calmed her
down, she finally spoke. "Shane, I'm...I'm pregnant." Shane swallowed
but it seemed that the stone in his throat was trying to choke him to
death. "By...by...who?" he could barely get the words out. He already
knew the answer. "It's yours." Shane looked at her stomach and back at
her face. "Are..are you sure you're...?" "This is for real. I double checked. I'm pregnant for real, no fals alarms, no joke, no going back." Shane's nightmare came true. "Maybe we should abort it..." Shane's eyes snapped open. "NO! Please let's just keep it. We'll find a way, I promise. I'll get a job and go to school to get a better job and then I can take care of both of you." Shane remembered his promise over the phone to K-Mar. "Please don't abort it. We can keep it. I'll tell my parents when they get home in a week. Did you tell yours?" Shane was afraid. Blaze's parents never liked Shane because he wasn't Hispanic. "I got kicked out of the house, Shane. I've been living with my sister." Blaze's sister, Maria, married a man from Nigeria that she met in college. She was told she couldn't visit the family until she was rid of him. She didn't mind housing Blaze at all and had also told her not to abort the baby. "I told her and she said she'd give us and the baby a room as long as we pay rent. Between what money we make, we can afford that until college so we have to work for scholarships." "We'll make it, Blaze. I promise." Shane placed his hand over her stomach. "I promise you both."
